LYRICS

I opened the drawer and there it lay.

The T-shirt you wore. Made my day.

I feel your touch, your warm embrace,

Smell your skin, and see your face.

Colors faded, edges frayed.

And here I keep you stashed away.

You’re comin’ apart at the seams.

Thoughts of mending are just a dream.

It’s just another T-shirt,

A T-shirt in my drawer.

It’s the special one, yeah,

Special one you wore.

Should I keep it, or let you go?

I’m closing the drawer until I know.

Close the drawer, I need more time ‘til I let go.

You haven’t come back. Not for a kiss.

So why am I hangin’ onto this?

Secretly wishing we’d try again?

No, not now. Never will be “when”.

Think I’ll toss it, but that seems brash.

Can’t bring myself to call it trash.

Cut it for a rag? Give it away?

Good bye, thank you, is what I’ll say.

It’s just another T-shirt,

A T-shirt in my drawer.

But it’s the special one, yeah, the

Special one you wore.

Should I keep it, or let you go?

I’m closing the drawer until I know.

Close the drawer, I need more time ‘til I let go.

Open the drawer.

Close the drawer.

Open the drawer.

It’s time to go.

Open the drawer.

Close the drawer.

Open the drawer.

It’s time to go.

It’s just another T-shirt, a T-shirt in my drawer.

It’s the special one, yeah, the special one you wore.

I’m sayin’ bye, it’s time to go.

I’m movin’ on, letting you go.

Open the drawer. Oh, goodbye, I’m letting you go.

I’m letting you go.

I’m letting you go.

About this songT-shirt in My Drawer Song

T-Shirt in My Drawer is the song I kept singing in my head when I couldn’t part with a certain T-shirt worn by a special someone. It sat folded in my drawer as I wrestled with what to do with it for a couple years. The true story is that my songwriter’s group (and my daughter) encouraged me to finally give away the shirt so I could finish writing the song. And so I did, and it was a very good move with a real life twist ending. Julia’s vocals bring this song to life, with additional production by Robert L. Smith at Defy Recordings.
