ABOUT THIS SONG

Julia Ross, the talented vocalist who transformed these lyrics into a powerful song, asked me if I wrote this song for any group or organization, and this is what I told her:

I did not write this song for any group or organization or specific issue. I just want people to sing it, be affirmed and be inspired to rally for whatever is important to them. I am moved by all the women out there (and men) who are speaking out for positive change everywhere! The “rock your own thang goin’ on” refers to whatever “issue” or “pain point” you feel the need to stand up for and speak for change (with voice and hands.)

I am a true political independent. For me, God=Love in this song. The call to action is inspired by the words, “…to do justice, to love kindness.” Rock on to those who do. It all started when a family friend (thank you, Paige) called ME a badass in October 2016 and I’ve been struggling to figure out what that really means. (She was referring to my adventure-loving behavior.) My intention for this song is to inspire, as I personally could only ASPIRE to be as brave as these folks out there.

The featured promotional photo is my future daughter-in-law, who marched in Denver on January 20, 2017. The night before the inauguration, she and my son held a dinner at their home, inviting fellow millennials to discuss what the new administration might mean for their future. As the sole baby boomer at the table, I was awed, inspired, and encouraged by the stimulating conversation that would later turn into action. Since then, I’ve started to find my own voice, and use my hands for good…more mindfully…where Love comes first.
